Location: John F. Kennedy Airport, New York

Contract Amount: $26 million

Percent Complete: 100%

Start Date: September, 2010

Completion Date: October, 2011

Project Scope:

  • In order to prepare for the expansion of JFK Terminal 4 and changes to the surrounding area, Delta Air Lines needed to install new pavement and utilities in an area southwest of the existing JFK Terminal 4. Peter Scalamandre & Sons was chosen as the Civil General Contractor to update utilities and pavement without disruption of ongoing airport operations. The final product were new taxilanes “KF” and “KG”.
  • The scope of the project called for demolition of approximately 133,000 square feet of existing asphalt and concrete pavement. Soil excavation and removal from site was followed by installation of new utilities. Construction staging, capturing and returning work areas, stock piling and security requirements were all carefully considered and coordinated in order to allow for airport operations to continue as usual around the operation.
  • New drainage structures and piping were installed and tied into an existing JFK positive drainage system. Existing structures to grade as necessary and new water quality control devices were set into place. Electrical duct bank was installed.
  • Placement and careful grading of new PCC and asphalt pavement sections followed. All pavement sections met the standards of PANYNJ and FAA. Pavement was then striped according to specific coordinates given. GPS survey technology in conjunction with AutoCAD drawings containing geospatial coordinate data were utilized to accurately perform all horizontal and vertical layout.
  • Lighting, aeronautical signage and striping according to the standards of PANYNJ & FAA were installed.
