Riker’s Island Prison Facility

New York City Department of General Services

Location
Riker’s Island

Sea Crest Construction was contracted by NYC Department of General Services to design and build a 300-cell addition and a 200-cell addition on Riker’s Island complete with locker rooms and storage facilities. The two-cell blocks bear on 702 piles. Construction included placement of 25,000 cubic yards of cast-in-place concrete. In addition, all the cells were precast concrete modular units, the first of its kind to be used on Riker’s Island.

One of the challenging aspects of this project was working in an existing, occupied maximum-security facility with a controlled and limited access. Sea Crest, in association with its affiliated company Peter Scalamandre and Sons, self-preformed the excavation, concrete and site work. This self-performance helped Sea Crest control the progress of the project and meet the completion deadline.
